Burlington, NC - The Burlington Royals are proud to announce the hiring of Ryan Keur as the team's new general manager. He has been promoted after having spent the previous two seasons as the club's assistant general manager. Keur, 24, started with the Royals in 2011 as a spring intern while he was an undergraduate at Elon University. A native of Sussex County, N.J., he graduated from Elon with a degree in sport and event management in December 2011 before joining the Royals full time and becoming a key contributor in two of the most successful seasons in the club's history.
Keur replaces Ben Abzug, 25, who has taken a position with the Charleston (S.C.) RiverDogs, the South Atlantic League Single-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, where he will serve as assistant general manager. Abzug had been with the Burlington club for four seasons, including the previous two as general manager. During his time as general manager, average attendance grew by nearly 50 percent, and stadium improvements such as a new beer stand and a new second-tier of outfield wall were erected. He was also named the 2012 Appalachian League Executive of the Year for the club's strong performance.
